No good deed goes unpunished - Oscar Wilde


Supposedly.

I'm sitting here with a bad back after braving it in the race for life
yesterday. I went with a bad back so it's not suprising I suppose that it is
worse today. Although I was hoping the exercise would do me good. (A gentle
stroll I hope you understand, no heorics here). It is an unwelcome reminder when I do some non strenous exercise and my body sends me messages that it is too
much. I did this in June, shortly after a cold that felled me for two weeks.
Lost me voice an all...not a small thing in my line of work. I wouldn't mind but
all I did was bend down to pick up me slippers. You know how that goes. Still the weather was kind and I enjoyed a nice chat with a friend.

It's got me thinking about what I will do with my clients this week, and also to
thinking about my stuff with my previous employer. I looked back pain up to see
what the metaphysical cause could be. It says it is about feeling a lack of
support. I imagine that it right to some degree I am still dealing with some events from recent years. The legal system is a slow system.

Heres my affirmations.

I trust life to support me
I am most fortunate in life
I have plenty of good fortune
My life is safe
I am well fed
My every need it taken care of
My bills are paid.
I enjoy my work
I have an abundance of clients
There is beauty in living
Every thing is working out fine
Life is an exciting adventure
I am healthy, wealthy and wise
Learning new things is exciting.

Affirmations at things that you say to yourself about the way your life is, or the way you want it to be. It doesn't matter which, it can be both. The purpose is to get a feeling of abundance, safety, gratefulness for what you have now while building possibilities to have more in the future.

So my good deed of yesterday means that today I am restricted in movement and therefore probably won't achieve targets that are very visible, but are important non the less. Thank goodness for computers.

Combat Pain with Hypnosis

It comes as no suprise to me that surgeons are now being told to use hypnosis in place of anaesthetic when performing surgery on their patients. It has been known for thousands of years that hypnosis can reduce pain, and James Esdaile pioneered its use in the medical profession with his clinic in India in the 1840's. Unfortunately for him (or so the story goes) chloroform became all the rage and people opted for its properties rather than the use of hypnosis. So hypnosis slid into the background until these past few decades when thankfully it is beginning to be recognised once again as a viable, scientific, and safe approach with absolutely no side effects. In addition, those people who undergo surgery using hypnosis for pain management don't only suffer less pain, but they are at lower risk of infection and the wound heals quicker.

Binge Eating - Why?

All or nothing thinking.

If I don't eat this now I might not get the chance later.

Now I've eaten this I may as well keep on eating 'naughty' food.

I'll never lose weight and be thin.

Where do these thoughts come from? Childhood!

Think about your food experiences from childhood. I'll share a few here with you. Ask yourself what thought patterns your experiences could have created. What are your beliefs about food and eating. Are they:-

Food is meant to be eaten
Food is meant to be nice
Some foods are bad for you
You are bad if you only eat certain foods
Food is meant to make you happy.
Food is just fuel for the body
I am bad if I want to eat 'fattening food'

If you had anything like the average childhood money was usually in fairly short supply and sweets chocolates and the 'nice' things in life were either few and far between, or had to be earned. Either by doing something special like clearing out the garage or reaching a landmark such as a birthday or Easter. This in itself can set up a non serving cycle of beliefs. It tend to turn preferred foods into treats. Food then can become a reward, or a commiseration. How many people eat in the wrong way simply because they think eating that way will cheer them up?

One of the things that my clients tell me is that when they slip off the 'good' road onto the 'naughty' road they can find themselves getting stuck in a 'naughty' rut. This is all part of the all or nothing thinking. It goes something like this. "I am on a diet, I must only eat food that is good and makes me believe I am good. This does not include all of the things I like, such as chocolate, crisps, alcohol, chips etc; when I eat those foods I fall off the diet and I become a bad person. I am a bad person. Being a bad person is painful to me. It makes me feel hopeless and helpless and out of control. I should accept that I am a victim of my inner conflicts. I am too weak to fight with my inner conflicts. I give up. I shall become fat and miserable". This is of course a very powerful affirmation to be giving to your subconscious mind....."I am a bad person"...."I am weak"..."I deserve to be miserable".

Getting away from all or nothing thinking is one of the most important aspects of losing and maintaining a satisfactory weight. Many people want to do it, but find themselves vulnerable to the cycle of behaviour that I have demonstrated. This is simply because, being on a diet brings thoughts of restriction and loss into our thinking patterns. We do not like feelings of loss, Freud told us that. So we cannot sustain the diet. It becomes too difficult, too absolute. I must not eat all of the things I like until......

So let's change it. Why not consider that losing weight takes a different approach alltogether. After all, as most people tell me they don't just want to lose it. They want to keep it off. They want to develop a healthy way of eating. A way in which they can enjoy eating some of the things they like some of the time. It doesn't take a university degree to notice that slimmer people don't spend their lives eating one Rocket Leaf and a tomato at every meal. They can be observed enjoying the occasional piece of cake or pizza. This is because they have a different way of viewing food and eating. Now to develop a new way of doing things takes organisation and planning. So why not try the idea below.

To develop a new way of eating I'd like you to consider this. Get onto your healthy regime, and stay on it until your lose some weight. My recommended amount is about half a stone. One reason why I say this is because when you first begin dieting you still have a few pounds of waste in your colon which you will lose in the first week, but this is not the fat that you want to lose, so you should wait until at least half a stone has come off, this is likely to be a few pounds of excess fat. When you have a few pounds off, and have begun to develop better eating habits,after a month or so give yourself a week or so off. Allow yourself to expand very slowly into the diet. This is not an opportunity to go mad. Just introduce one or two things over one or two days of the week. For example a glass of wine or two on a Friday. A small bar of chocolate in a Sunday afternoon. Enough to make you feel as though you have had a little treat. Enjoyed a little bit of something special but not gone completely off the rails. By doing this you will find that you can maintain that healthy eating plan because you will not become miserable thinking that your life must continue forever without ever drinking alcohol or eating sweet things.

You will also begin to notice that these small amounts of foods that you thought of as 'naughty' foods are not so naughty after all. They really don't make that much of a difference. It is not having the odd treat here and there that causes weight increase. It is a consistent eating pattern that incorporates those high calorie foods, which are in fact all the foods that have been processed. Allowing yourself just a few little treats during the week at worst is likely to make your weight stabilise, which is of course part of a maintenance programme. It is a good idea to maintain your weight periodically during your weight loss period. It teaches your body to work within tolerances. It teaches it that every now and again you can have something other than salad or fruit and that the body can handle it without massive weight increases.

After the week is over, go back to your regime. You will feel much better for it because you will feel as though life is much more bearable now that you know that a lifetime of restriction is not stretching endlessly before you. In addition to feeling good you will also lose weight. Albeit slowly, but really a slow weigt loss is what you are aiming for. You are trying to adopt a natural eating pattern that allows you to maintain your optimum weight, shape and size.

Great interview skills

In the world of work today you have to have an edge in order to get on. Whether it is keeping your present job, applying for a new job, or getting a promotion with your current employer. Those who can demonstrate a certain library of skills and resources are always going to have the upper hand. The truth is that it is no longer IQ that counts, it is EQ

These days emotional intelligence is what employers are looking for. Those four elements of self awareness, self management. social awareness, and relationship management are crucial in developing fluid and collaborative working relationships that create cohesion within teams both small and large.

Learn how to put your emotional intelligence to good use and secure job that you want.

So ok, you have done the basics. You've chosen the right clothes, not too informal, they are clean and well pressed. You've washed your face and cleaned your teeth. Your hair has been slicked down or spiked up, whichever is your style and you are ready to roll. Now what? Well let me tell you that knowing what your strengths and weaknesses are is a good start but you will still have to give a good account of yourself at the interview.

How about these hot tips.

Find out as much as you can about the company before you go for the first interview. Ask friends and family about the firm. Are they in the fortune 500? How long have they been in business? How many produce lines do they run? You can always ask to have some leaflets posted out to you if you are nice to the receptionist. Using the internet might prove fruitful. If you have a good network you could ask around to see if they are the kind of employer you would like to work for. What are the holidays? Do they provide any health care? What is their performance in regard to continuing development?

Take a look at their advert. Notice which of the skills they are asking for and match them with your own. Keep in mind that adverts for jobs are often given to HR without much analysis, a telephone call or in some cases a requisition is all that is put into the wording. What this means is that whatever skills the advert asks for there many be other skills that are not mentioned. Often when applying for a job it comes to light that the company operates a particular piece of software, you might not be experienced in using this package but past experience of using bespoke software is an advantage. What an employer is looking for in this instance of someone who can learn quickly. If we break int down into the four elements we can better understand what an employer is looking for.

These first two skills are about you.


Self Awareness

In the vernacular someone who is self aware will know what makes them tick. They wouldn't for example take a job in a frozen food warehouse if they hated the cold. Knowing what makes you tick also means knowing what your values are. Are you someone who wants to take care of people. Then if so you could be suited to a job in nursing or dental care. Or do you prefer to work in isolation with little supervision. If you are someone who thrives on praise then you might want to reconsider thinking of a position in the armed forces. Being self aware means the ability to perceive your own emotions and stay aware of them in the now. Being self aware means being able to keep on top of how you respond in certain situations. How self aware are you. In the place of work being self aware means that you will know what your strengths and which are you development areas. You will be aware of your own belief systems. You know what motivates you. What you want/need to learn about yourself and where you are headed in the future. Self aware means "how do you see yourself as a person?


Self-Management


Means to direct your behavior in a way that is both useful to your employer but also useful for you. This means managing your emotional reactions to all situations and people. Keeping your interactions calm and focussed upon the goal.


These last two skills focus more on your interaction with other people.

Social Awareness

The way you pick up on what is going on with other people. Being able to perceive other peoples emotions. This often means understanding what is happening with other people even if you don't feel the say way as they do.

Relationships Management

The ability to use the insight that you have in yourself and into human nature to manage interactions successfully. Using emotional awareness guide you into clear and effective ways of cummunicating with others.
